I may not need to tell about the WordPress, the biggest blogging software with best user interface and available free and easy to use tools in forms of themes and plugins. There are many less known features are available which can be used by a WordPress blogger to make his or her site more user friendly with proper navigation. One of the feature which many bloggers search is how to add specific posts to a page so that it can be added to website's navigation bar.
A blogger can use either WordPress plugins or simply the tools come inbuilt in your WordPress dashboard panel. I would recommend you to use inbuilt WordPress tool, if possible. As installation of too many unwanted and not much used plugins can risk your site from getting crashed or hacked. Try to install less plugins and only useful plugins to keep your WordPress site to load faster, and to avoid crash or any occurrence of errors.
Without installing WordPress Plugin:
By using Menus option of dashboard of your WordPress admin panel you can not only add specific page to your navigation bar, but also can add category to appear it as a page with different posts belong to that category.
Steps:
1. Open your WordPress admin panel. Go to Appearance -> Menus option. Here, make new menu bar by pressing '+' sign displaying with 'Home' option in the upper bar.
2. Select which category do you wanna display in navigation bar and click on 'add to menu' option and it will be added in your created menu bar.
3. Now, select the Menu bar name in left hand side 'primary menu' option under Theme Location widget and save it.
You will see the category has been added to your navigation bar and it will appear as page in which your selected and latest posts on that category are appearing. The posts will be appear with summary view as your in home page, if have set your settings to summary from full page.
Using WordPress plugins:
The same and something different can also be done using plugins, if you don't like to create and add new menu bar of your blog. For this you have to install a plugin according to your requirements and display view. Let's discuss about the plugins for this:-
1. Posts in Page
- This is simple and gives an easy short code to add in your page with specific post id or add different posts id separated by commas, you can also add category short code or any sub category to display in your created page. There are different short codes mentioned, when you install this plugin.
The posts will appear in summary format with maximum number of posts as in your home page and each post will have border around it which will give a good view to a viewer. Go to Settings -> Posts in Page.
2. Posts to Page
- This plugin is similar to the previous one. The only differences are of short code and its posts view. It only accept a single short code with category id and insert full view of post even if you have set summary view. One has to simply add
[posts-to-page cat_ID=category-id]
and it will display posts with full description.
